(^-^) What all games are you into, and playing just now ?

For a reasonable background into the games I've known and loved recently, plase check out my Vegefide blog about gaming

Since posting to that blog, I've finished all of PopoloCrois.
While undeniably being rather dated nowadays, this game is still a charming, plot-stuffed, fun RPG, which I've found enjoyable to play.

(^-^) Over the last couple of weeks, I've tromped through FF : Crisis Core !
It's a good length (30 hrs +), and with its slinky polish It'll be a good one to play through again on Hard Mode sometime.

So, now I've embarked on a sizeable chunk of Star Ocean : Second Evolution -

I gather that the new Xbox 360 Star Ocean game is (by many reviewers' accounts) apparently a bit mediocre, but I'm having a blast with this PSP game.

It's a remake of an old Playstation game, but it's still very stylish etc.

I've also been playing both of the PSP 'Wipeout' games (Wipeout Pulse, and Wipeout Pure), both of which are great exhilerating hovercrafty fun, and both of which impress me quite a lot with their slinky polygon-shifting shenanigans.

PostSubject: God of War   Mon 27 Jul 2009, 9:22 am

Smile I tried playing Blade Dancer for a bit, but it kind of annoyed me with it's numerous poxy little side quests, reams of blabber to wade through, and slightly aggrivating lock-on-for-talk system.
The start reminds me of the (similarly irritating) start of Summoner, and while competent the whole thing felt and seemed decidedly mediocre compared to Final Fantasy Crisis Core...
So really, I don't really see much point in me playing Blade Dancer, instead.

I have however, been playing the nice God Of War game on my PSP.
It's ludicrously cheap, which is pretty nice.
It's a good game, very solid and competent.... nicely polished and put together, with great 3D and graphics...
Gameplaywise, the standard manages to be much the same as the PS2 God of War game, despite squeezing into sucha tiny package.

Very Happy Well, the the PSP God Of War game was a rollicking good adventure I thought.
Plenty of fiery lashing and slashing, and all kinds of different things to do.
It's a fairly short game comparatively speaking, but I felt that it was decently generous, especially considering that nowadays it's a 'budget game'.... which is a bit ridiculous, IMHO. Mine was only £5, including postage !

Having stomped and thwomped my way through that with glee, I've started on Resident Evil 5.
Ha, it's ridiculously pretty, and very much like Resident Evil 4 (which I enjoyed playing enormously)

Apparently, these black zombies are incredibly controvertial...

RE 5 eh? I liked 4. Will have to get 5.

I haven't played too many games though in many years. Trying to find time nowadays but something has to give... I am interested in making games using the Valve Hammer Engine (Half Life, etc....) There's a couple of sites full of virtual reality games that people have made using that open source code. I figured I ought to play a bunch of those games for starters to see just what all it's capable of... My computer got the blue screen of death recently as it's full despite also using an external HD...

(^-^) I've just finished playing Passage.
It's a very short, very stylistic, almost abstract-art sort of game.
The best way to experience it, is to play it.

It's very simple, and only 5 minutes long.

Game Source :
http://hcsoftware.sourceforge.net/passage/

Review excerpt -
Quote :
Passage, created by Jason Rohrer, is an exercise in gaming minimalism. Made for korokomi's gamma 256 competition, It's only five minutes long, it weighs in at less than 500kb, it takes place on a 100x16 field of pixels, and it only requires the arrow keys.

It's also one of the most clever, meaningful, affecting, and memorable games ever made.

To say too much about Passage before you've played it -- to describe how I played through it, and how it affected me -- is to spoil it. Passage is about life: what it feels like, how we live it, and how we find happiness. There is no true "right" or "wrong" way the play the game, and much of Passage's brilliance can only be understood through completing it yourself.

NOTE - it's strongly recommended that you read the review only after playing the game, to avoid unnecessary spoilers etc.

It made me feel very sad, but also motivated me to really get a good education main-road sorted out rather than studying a bit of this, then a bit of that.... to really find a true value in life.... not to pin my happiness on someone else..... to find a meaningful job in the end.... to stay away from "the humdrum of everyday existence" which so many people take so much for granted, that they honestly don't seem to even perceive of any other way of being.

Very Happy It's great fun !

I'm just playing it on a little (albeit exceedingly good high-res quality) screen too, it would be even more pretty on a bigger screen.

On the strategy side of things, I'm now playing this -

Final Fantasy : War of the lions

Smile After playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for about 150 hours in total, already (it's a good, long game, with plenty to do) , I'm well equipped to get stuck right into this.
It's a PSP remake of an older game for the Playstation, and I think that it translates to the handheld format really well.
They also have some new pretty little cut-scenes sprinkled in there, which is a nice touch.

I'm about ten hours in, and have just started the second "Chapter" of the game, having moseyed across a considerable quantity of the continent of Ivalice, and kicked quite a lot of ass in the process.

If anyone likes Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, then I would certainly recommend this game. And, vice-versa.

(^-^) I gather that there's also a new version for the Nintendo DS out, which looks interesting too !

(^-^) I've just finished playing 'Ratchet and Clank : Size matters'.

Very Happy What a fun game !
It manages to squish a full-sized, highly enjoyable Ratchet and Clank game into a tiny portable package.... How awesome is that !

Smile So, now I'm going to play through 'Ratchet and Clank 3' as well -

I must have missed this earlier post. All that from a 5 minute game? I'll have to play it. And RE 5 also...

Smile I think that how much people might experience from playing the game, frequently seems to relate to their depth and range of present thought.
So, some people of the "please me, now!" variety will report feeling little when playing the game, or just feeling bored or annoyed, or like it's a basic game.

Others though, can play it and let it catalyse their thought along so many more lines....
I think I was in a thoughtful mood, when I played Passage.

And RE 5 also...

Resident Evil 5 is a lot of fun, and very polished.
I'm still somewhere in the middle - having capriciously loitered off to play other games on a whim, in the meantime.
