The Prince of Wales has vowed to do all he can to help the UK's dairy industry.

Speaking to industry representatives during his annual tour of Wales, the Prince said he had been deeply moved to learn about the collapse of Dairy Farmers of Britain and its impact on milk producers.

But he made it clear that he still supported farming co-operatives.

Dai Davies, NFU Cymru president], said the Prince was clearly passionate about the future of family farms.

"We discussed at some length what might be done to mitigate the financial impact on those producers who would lose significant sums of money and capital invested in DFB, and whose businesses were, as a consequence, on the brink of collapse," said Mr Davies.

"We also discussed what could be done for the relatively small number of producers in Wales who had still to find an alternative outlet for their milk.

"The Prince indicated he would do anything he could to assist and asked to be kept informed of developments."

During his tour Prince Charles also met members of the Cambrian Mountains Lamb marketing initiative he launched in 2008 to hear report on progress made.
